"I started working in the gaming industry in 1996, and had the opprtunity to work for some great companies like Square USA and Insomniac Games before founding Lodestone in 2007. After incorporating Lodestone, I've gotten to work with a variety of top-notch companies both locally and remotely. Here are some scenes from games I was fortunate enough to be a part of."
--John Lally, Director, Lodestone Animation, Inc.
I animated the characters in this scene from Dark Void at LAIKA, the Portland-based company responsible for feature films "Coraline" and "Paranorman". Capcom and Airtight Games sought out LAIKA to produce all of the cutscenes in Dark Void. LAIKA is well-known for its experience in telling stories with high quality animation.
I got to animate Captain Qwark in this video from RC:GC. Qwark was always one of my favorite characters to work on. I was also responsible for creating Ratchet's facial rig (seen at the end of this video). Created in Maya, this face rig was used througout the PS2 Ratchet & Clank series.
Oliver Wade, a fellow Insomniac alum, and I wrote and directed most of the cinematics in RC:GC (with meticulous editing and creative input from CEO, Ted Price and CCO, Brian Hastings). Insomniac was a great company in that it called on its employees to cross disciplines when the needs of production required it, and I greatly appreciated the opportunity to do the writing, casting, and voice talent direction for this and other scenes.
A little ancient history here, included because watching Spyro cutscenes always makes me smile. We had a very small team at Insomniac back in the Spyro days, and we animators were generally responsible for all blocking, timing, cameras, and character animation in their cutscenes. I enjoyed animating this sequence, and remember the Sorceress as my favorite character.
